After over 20 years as the “face” of Scientology, Tom Cruise might be prepping to leave the controversial organization. Star reports that his 9-year-old daughter Suri, is on the verge of becoming labeled a “suppressive person,” basically the worst thing you can be, according to the Church, which would mean that he basically couldn’t contact her.
Although Tom allegedly hasn’t seen her in over two years anyway, being forced to limit communications with his own daughter might be catalyst enough to leave his beloved religion.
A source told Star, “Tom has been under tremendous pressure where Suri and Katie are concerned because the church doesn’t want him close to them.”
“They can’t stand that their own poster boy isn’t raising his child in the church. If they label Suri a suppressive person, as they’ve been known to do with dissenters, that would make it hard for Tom to have a relationship with her.”
Tom has apparently been through this before. According to Alex Gibney’s documentary Going Clear, the top dog in Scientology tried everything in his power to break up Tom and Nicole Kidman and they apparently weren’t so keen on Katie Holmes either.
After all, Katie, narrowly escaped Scientology by securing a disposable cell phone that she used to contact three law firms in three different states so no one could track her moves. This helped her initiate divorce from Cruise without him knowing.
When Cruise and Holmes ultimately split in June 2012, tabloids reported that it was because Katie was afraid that Tom wanted to ship Suri off to Sea Org—a strict faction within the Church of Scientology. While those rumors swirled, Katie allegedly rented a secret apartment in NY to keep Suri safe from Scientology, or at least out of the gossip rags.
Now, sources told Star that “When Suri speaks to him on the phone, it’s becoming more and more like she’s talking to a stranger.”
Though if this news is true, it would clearly be a tremendously difficult decision for Tom, the source says “he’s finally making a choice to put his daughter first.”
